Type 1, Type 27 or Type 29?
The type number describes the shape, and the shape decides how the wheel can be presented to the work.
- Type 1 is flat – straight cutting only, never side grinding.
- Type 27 has a depressed center – grinding at a shallow angle, and it clears the guard and the flange.
- Type 29 is conical – more aggressive stock removal at a steeper angle.
Which abrasive for stainless steel?
Use a wheel or disc marked contaminant-free or inox. Ordinary abrasives can carry iron, sulphur and chlorine that embed in the surface and cause rust staining and corrosion on stainless.

What grit should I order on flap and fiber discs?
- 36–40 grit – heavy stock removal, weld knockdown
- 60–80 grit – general blending
- 100–120 grit – finishing before paint or polish
Stepping down two grits at a time removes the previous scratch pattern without wasting discs.
Do abrasive wheels expire?
Yes. Bonded abrasive wheels carry an expiry date, normally three years from manufacture, because the resin bond degrades. Check the date on the blotter before mounting and retire anything past it.
Store wheels flat, dry and away from heat.
How do I check the wheel against my grinder?
Two numbers have to agree: the maximum operating speed printed on the wheel must be at or above the grinder's no-load RPM, and the arbor must match. Running a wheel past its rated speed is a burst risk.
Never remove the guard to fit an oversized wheel.
What is the difference between a cut-off wheel and a diamond blade?
An abrasive cut-off wheel wears away as it cuts and is consumed. A diamond blade has a steel core with diamond segments and lasts far longer per cut, at a higher up-front cost.

What do you need from me to quote?
The part number or catalog number if you have it. If you do not, tell us the material being cut or ground, the machine it runs on, the size and arbor or thread, the quantity, and where it ships.
On equipment, add the power available - gas, hydraulic, 115V, 230V or three-phase - because most models are built in more than one configuration.
