• Discharge to sewer usually needs oil and solids pulled out first to meet the local pretreatment limit.
• Separation only suits sites that just need oil and solids removed before an existing drain.

Your local sewer authority sets the limits, so check with them first.

Bio systems use microbes to break down oils and detergents, so there is far less sludge to haul away. They suit steady daily wash volume.

Mechanical systems use clarification and filtration and respond faster to intermittent or highly variable loads.

• Gallons per minute and gallons per day of wash water
• What is being washed and what comes off it
• Whether water is recycled, discharged to sewer or hauled
• Local discharge limits if you have them
• Indoor or outdoor, and freeze exposure
